Social Media Ad Buying: An expensive crapshoot: Apart from unpaid "exposure" companies are investing more in buying ad space on the major social media platforms -- Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and to a lesser extend, Twitter. Typically and historically, advertising on social networks and communities has been very ineffective, with fewer clicks on ads, and much fewer conversions compared to ads on websites, per se. This isn't surprising because, at least until now, people "hang" in communities to interact with each other, and not to find product or services to buy. Of course that may change, but right now, I'm comfortable saying that buying ads on these platforms is NOT likely to produce measurable return on investment. Per click rates (CPC) tend to be VERY high.
If you jump in it's key to track your returns in actual sales, and keep to advertising on platforms that allow ruthlessly targeted ads -- so that you only show your ads to your specific markets.

Those surveyed said that "65% of their marketing spend had no discernible effect on consumer behavior in 2007." That's even worse that the old adage about 50% of your marketing being wasted, but not knowing which half. However, the reason is pretty much the same - lack of measurement. Their advertising options can be found at LinkedIn Direct Ads.Now, I will first say that the LinkedIn CPM is $3.00 and the minimum CPC bid is $2.00. That's a little high for most network marketers so determining if it's worth it or not is important. And, I had difficulty finding any information on Google that was written by network marketers specifically. (Added: 20-Sep-2010 Hits: 279 )
